STIB has ordered 43 new M7 metros to increase service frequency on the existing metro network and have new vehicles available for the future metro line 3, on which work is continuing in the vicinity of Gare du Midi. Delivery of the first 22 M7 trains, built in CAF's factory in the Basque Country, began in 2020. Following tests carried out on the network, the first 11 trains will be gradually brought into service from summer 2021. The other 11 trains will be brought into service in stages until 2022. The next 21 trains have already been ordered.
