New markers on lines 1 and 5
The East-West Metro Modernisation Programme, which came into service over 40 years ago, continued in 2020. In mid-June, new markers and antennas appeared on lines 1 and 5. These devices are necessary for the implementation of the new safety signalling.
Some of the new signalling functions will be operational in 2021, following the arrival on the network of the brand new M7 metro trains.
This new signalling, coupled with the delivery of the new M7 metro trains, will make it possible to increase service frequency.
Seven thousand additional places per hour will be created when service frequency increases from 2 mins 30 to 2 minutes at peak times on the entire East-West axis in 2023. The service frequency on lines 2 - 6 will increase from 3 to 2 minutes 30, by the end of 2021. This equates to 4,000 extra places per hour.
